Think about it!!!!

This semester has started out really well. We have been discussing the sustainable ethic and its implications for the future of the earth. I know sometimes these things seem so far removed from you personally so..... I want you to return to my website amoalf.com and go to notes and assignments. Find your class and scroll down until you ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT and click on it. Take the quiz you find there and post your score along with any recommendations it makes back here on the blog. In your response discuss WHY you think you think you received the score you did. Base your answer on things we have discussed in class or just ask a question that you have had.  After posting your ideas please respond to two other posts you have read with a question or comment. I am looking forward to reading your ideas.

Noah B, I think that taking an hour shower will over use a whole lot of water. I have also started to shorten my showers for the past week. I believe that I will not be able to keep my showers as short because it will make me feel dirty.

Kevin D,

I shortened my showers to 20 minutes. It doesn't matter how long i take showers, because i dont care. As long as i dont stink, because there is enough water in the world.

Goethe,

How can all of these wars and wildfires just be rumors it just doesn't make any scenes if you ask me because,if it all was just a rumors like you say then why all of these people die from it.. but scientist, politest, and so on doesn't care about 'the people of the US' will the earth one day end the answer is yes,not because we dont take care of it because the government and those type of people will mess up the earth with a experiment and all the rich people and scientist will leave the earth or like go to some where safe where the whole human race dies off so there no point in us trying to fix the earth.

The challenge I did this week was brushing my teeth and remembering to turn the water off. It was sometimes hard because I have a habit of leaving it on. Overall this challenge was effortless. It will be easy to do this for the rest of my life once I break the habit of leaving the water on.

With climate change discussion comes the , ad-hominem attacks on scientists that are intended to shake public trust in the scientific evidence that underpin the whole issue. After all, who could be more villainous than the world’s climate scientists? Do some people really think this group of environmentally minded PhDs might be pulling off a skillfully-coordinated global conspiracy, one involving 100 years of research from hundreds of scientists all over the world?
The idea that scientists have caused a giant conspiracy may seem silly but for those people that have no true knowledge of science and have never met a true research scientist and are emotionally attached to the idea that humans cannot be causing the problem, then maybe it does seem plausible that greedy climate scientists are falsifying reports to score that next big grant. It seems you like are fond of conspiracies...why don't you go find the fake moon landing site? That should keep you busy for a while.

Goethe, if you truly think that global warming and climate change is all one big hoax, prove it. Provide some scientific evidence that the world isn't warming or at least that is has nothing to do with humans. I don't want any bible quotes.

There are thousands of scientists and politicians who have done their research and millions of people who are passionate about climate change and who have dedicated their lives to this issue, and you believe that all these people formed this massive "conspiracy" just to put some extra money in their pockets? There is undeniable proof that the world in basically falling apart. That's completely irrational and quite frankly just stupid.

I'd just like to know the basis to your beliefs.

Hey, if you want me to be completely honest here, everyone may think that doing all of these things that's on the list to do helps a lot with, I guess saving the earth, maybe sometimes but not as much as you think it does. The reason I think this is, is because whatever we do, like cutting back on doing these things, or cutting some of them out, there's always someone that's going to do them more which basically won't do anything to help us do the very thing that we're trying to do to help. And also having all of the laws to prevent further destruction of our planet, also all the people that are doing everything to make or reverse the damage we have done to earth doesn't exactly make the difference that we are suppose to make and are hoping/trying to make. This is because there are more people that don't care about helping, the litterers, skeptics that don't believe that earth is basically dying because of us, the people who only care about themselves and want to do whatever they want no matter the consequences, etc. But yes I did the cutting off the lights for mine, it wasn't hard to do because I have always done it, and I did it well. Last but not least, don't automatically think i'm one of those people that wants to kill our only way of existence, or don't care about hurting our home(Earth) just as long as I get my way or get to do whatever I want. I'm not that person at all, I hate it as much as anyone else. This concludes my argument.

It would take 2 Earths to support my lifestyle, my overshoot day is June 28. I was not here when we went over this but I did however, try to cut down on my shower time. I used to take 40 minute showers but I shorten it by 15 minutes and I'm now saving more water. It was kind of difficult to get used to because I listen to music and do most of my thinking but I believe I could adjust to it. "The earth will not continue to offer its harvest, except with faithful stewardship. We cannot say we love the land and then take steps to destroy it for use by future generations."- John Paul II.

To Mark KC,
The problem for you seems to be cognitive dissonance–if you’re not acting green, you tend to automatically adjust your beliefs to justify your behavior. What do you think?

Picasso, We will never treat the earth right. Humans are too selfish.

I agree with Picasso, there's no way you could take a shower in 5 minutes, because if that's so, you obviously didn't wash everything, maybe just your whole head. For you to be able to wash everything, should at least 15 minutes, no less than that. Noah R., you are not clean.

Emily, how do you forget to turn the water off after brushing your teeth, do you not hear the running water coming out of the sink facet. And remembering to turn the water off shouldn't be that hard to do being that you at least brush your teeth everyday. You really should start remembering to turn off the water, it's not that hard to do.
